Nestled among the tall Ponderosa pines of the White Mountains is the town of Pinetop-Lakeside, one of Arizona's best kept secrets. This charming mountain community offers clean air, clear skies, refreshing lakes and streams and temperatures averaging 20 degrees below those in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas. The community has a calendar full of festivals and events that cater to the whole family as well as summer visitors.

The White Mountains Trail System is complete after eight years of conceptualizing, planning and hard work. The main body of the Trail system, 108 miles of non-motorized multi-use loops, opens itself to hikers, mountain bikers and campers. Cross-country skiers can also make use of the Trail system when there is snow. The two final loops, Los Burros Trail and Ghost of the Coyote Trail, are now open.

Be sure to enjoy the fall colors in the White Mountains. Fall colors can "usually" be seen in mid-October. The small communities of Greer and Alpine aford great viewing. Picnic Hill east of Alpine is favored by the locals.

Woodland Lake Park, located in the heart of Pinetop/Lakeside, is the central point of the White Mountains Trailsystem. The park has tennis courts, softball fields, multi-use trails, volleyball courts, ramadas, grills, playgrounds and more.

Woodland Lake, itself, is open to fishing and boating. The lake is home to trout, crappie, bass and bluegill. The White Mountains contain more than 65 lakes and streams in the surrounding area, many of them have a large variety of species, including rare Native Apache trout, Arctic Grayling, pike, bass and more. Fishing opportunities include dock, shoreline and boat fishing, as well as fly fishing, pay-by-the-pound lakes and ice fishing in the winter.
